Miguel joined Citigroup in 2010 as Head of CIB Portugal. In mid-2012, he was appointed Head of IB Africa (exc. SA & Egypt). In November 2017 Miguel was appointed Head of IB for the Middle East and Africa (ex SA) and in January 2023 he was appointed Chairman of Investment Banking Middle East & Africa. Prior to working at Citigroup, Miguel was a Senior Country Advisor for Bank of America Merrill Lynch and an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs. Miguel has an MBA in Finance from City University Business School in London and a BSc in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon In M&A, Miguel has been advising on reference transactions for Middle East and African clients such as Helios Investment Partners, TGI (Nigeria) and Access Bank (Pan-african) in Africa and Network International and DP World (UAE); Euromoney named Citi the Best Advisory Bank in both Africa (2020) and the Middle East (2020 and 2021); In ECM, Miguel and the Citi team have been the clear leaders in MEA regions leading more Equity offerings than any other institution; most recently those include IPOs for VIVO and ASA international in 2018 and Network International, Jumia and Airtel Africa in 2019 and several equity offerings in 2020 and 2021 for companies like Jumia and Helios Towers; in 2022 Miguel and his Citi colleagues were Joint Global coordinators in DEWA (UAE) IPO, one of only 3 IPOs in EMEA region above 6bn USD; in the ME in the last 3 years, Citi has been the leader in ECM.
