Matt Sweeney

Prior to joining Thursday as a partner, Matt Sweeney was a member of the technical staff at Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company.

He is best known for co-founding Uber’s self-driving vehicle group, deeply involved in the acquisition of the core robotics teams and definition of the robo taxi strategy. Earlier in his Uber tenure, Matt was head of the Applied Mathematics group, leading the engineering teams responsible for carpooling, surge pricing, arrival time estimation, routing, and supply positioning.

Matt is an engineering multi-disciplinarian, and a rapid autodidact across a wide variety of fields. He is focused on taking breakthroughs from theory to engineering and production. He began his career as an engineer in the semiconductor industry, and also at startups working on laser gas spectroscopy and computer vision. Matt is a biomedical engineer by training, with a focus focus on modeling, particularly FEA/CFD.
