Graduated magna cum laude from Lisbon Medical School but after seven years of professional life, I changed path and joined the Portuguese Foreign Service. My diplomatic assignments have included a firm knowledge of intra-European dynamics (in London, Madrid and as ambassador to France), an extended acquaintance with Middle East (posts in both Tel Aviv and Ramallah), highly educational 3 years in Moscow for understanding post-Soviet dynamics and familiarization with Caucasus and Central Asia issues; an experience in Asia first as ambassador in Bangkok (but also accredited to Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia) culminating in five years as ambassador in China. Always very keen on the investment & trade dimension of my job, I was awarded in 2016 “Economic Diplomat of the Year” in my third year in Beijing. After 5 years as ambassador in Paris, I have embarked, in January 2023, on a new journey, accepting the challenge of working for a Single Family Office, based in Dubai, of a French entrepreneur who has invested through all asset classes but was also quick, a few years ago, to realize the importance of hydrogen and other green molecules for our crucial decarbonization efforts.
